Curriculum
All teachers adhere to the same key principles for learning when planning the curriculum. We believe
that children learn best when:
- they feel secure and valued
- they are learning through a combination of practical experiences which are supported by discussion
- they are motivated by the task
- they understand why they are undertaking activities and are involved in their own assessment
- they are involved in co-operative and collaborative tasks
- their learning starts from where they are, considering their individual needs
- they have equal opportunity to access the curriculum irrespective of race, class and gender
To provide a stimulating working environment we offer a variety of visual displays and carefully planned
and well laid-out classrooms. We make use of our local resource centres which provide us with a wide
variety of extra materials.
Each child follows the same basic curriculum and we work with careful reference to the units of study
stated in the QCA and National Curriculum documents. However, because we realise that all children
are different we make a special effort to match activities to individual needs, so children of the same age
will not necessarily be doing the same work. We encourage our pupils to work to improve upon their
own past performances, rather than to compare themselves with other children.
We are constantly assessing progress and where extra help is needed we aim to provide it.
