History of the School
Holy Trinity School has been in existence for over 100 years and we have school log books dating
back to 1880.
In 1903, three Sisters of Providence, an order renowned for its teaching successes, arrived in Chipping
Norton and took charge of the school. When their order finally left, the nuns from the Society of The
Holy Child Jesus replaced them. These nuns left the school staff consists entirely of lay teachers.
The Building
The original building was connected to the old convent and is now used by the Town Nursery. At first
it catered for boys and girls aged 5 to 14.
In the 1950s the infant part of the school was moved to a newly erected building which is our present
day foundation classroom, and in 1974 this new building had a hall, extra classrooms and other facilities
added to it.
The number of children on roll has steadily increased over the years and Holy Trinity School soon out
grew this extra space. In 1988 new Junior cloakrooms were built and the following year an extra
temporary classroom was erected on the site.
In September 1992 the school was badly damaged by fire and the classes all moved to temporary
accommodation in the form of mobile classrooms on the school field. The main school was rebuilt with
improvements made to the previous design of the building. These improvements included an extension
of the hall to contain a stage and the creation of a new library area.
Pupils and teachers moved back into the main building and the school was re-dedicated by Bishop
Pargeter on 17th December 1993.
