World Book Day 2026

We had a wonderful and exciting World Book Day at school this year, and it all began with a mystery! When the Reception children arrived in the morning, they were shocked to discover that all the books in their classroom had been “stolen” overnight. With empty shelves and no stories to read, our youngest pupils quickly became book detectives, investigating clues and working together to solve the mystery. Thanks to their brilliant detective skills, the missing books were soon found and safely returned, much to everyone’s relief!
Across the school, children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. The creativity and effort were truly amazing—from classic storybook heroes to colourful characters from modern favourites. Prizes were awarded during our end‑of‑day assembly for the most creative costumes, though choosing winners was incredibly difficult with so many fantastic outfits on show.
Another highlight of the day was our much‑loved Reading Café. Children paired up with their reading buddies to enjoy stories together while relaxing with squash and biscuits.
The cosy atmosphere made it a perfect setting to share books and celebrate the joy of reading. The fun didn’t stop there—our Mystery Staff Reader Picture Quiz had pupils guessing which staff members were hiding behind the books they were currently reading. There was lots of laughter and plenty of surprising reveals!
World Book Day was a fantastic celebration of stories, imagination and the magic that reading brings to our school community.
