Twinning

Miss Hussain, Leader of Banbury Town Council, recently had the honour of representing the town during an official visit to Hennef, Germany. The two towns came together to renew their long‑standing declaration of friendship, an important partnership that began more than 40 years ago. During the ceremony, Miss Hussain signed the renewed declaration alongside the Mayor of Hennef, Mario Dahm, reaffirming the strong connection between the two communities. The celebrations concluded with the vibrant and traditional Karnivel, where the whole town joined in a colourful procession filled with imaginative costumes and joyful festivities. Karnivel has deep historical roots. Originally an act of rebellion against the Prussians when the region was under French influence, it has evolved into a cherished cultural tradition. In this predominantly Catholic area, the celebration also marks the lead‑up to the season of Lent.
